#GivingTuesday – November 27th
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving when people are encouraged to support those causes that mean the most to them. This year, it will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 27th!
We hope that will consider support for Tuition Assistance at TMS this year. We remain committed to keeping tuition as low as possible, but we know that there are some families for whom tuition remains out of reach.
Elementary Open House – November 27th
On Tuesday, November 27th from 5:30-6:30pm, the Lower and Upper Elementary classes will host an Open House for parents of children moving up to, or interested in joining, the elementary classes of 2019-20.
We are excited to introduce families to the curriculum, talk about what your child can expect, and explore the lessons and classrooms!
Be on the lookout for more information!
Middle School Open House – December 4th
Want to find out more about our Middle School program? The MS Open House will be Tuesday, December 4th from 5:30-6:30pm. As you think about the next level of education for your child, we are excited to show you all the amazing things happening in the Middle School! The Open House is required for the parents of all 5th graders; parents of elementary school children and others interested in the MS program are encouraged to attend, as well.
Share Your Christmas Food Drive and Salvation Army Angels
The Montessori School is once again participating in the Channel 3/Chattanooga Area Food Bank Share Your Christmas Food Drive and the Salvation Army Angel Tree!
Barrels will be in each classroom by the end of the week to receive any non-perishable items that you would like to send. The end of the drive is Thursday, December 6th.
Families are welcome to choose an Salvation Army Angel from the trees in either office, record the tag number(s) on the sheet provided, and purchase items per instructions on the card.
Additionally, families can request an angel by signing up on the Master Volunteer doc on the password-protected portion of our website. (There is an “Angel Tree” tab at the bottom.) Fill in contact info and notes about gender, age, etc. of angel. We will fill in the number and send an angel home in your child’s backpack!
The items purchased, along with the “Angel” tag, should be returned to school by Friday, December 7th. There are large bags in each office to hold the gifts; please label the bag and bring the gifts unwrapped.
Please contact Paige with any questions. Thank you!
Babysit a Classroom Pet Over Thanksgiving Break
Our classroom pets would love to come home with you over the holiday break!
Each pet comes with its habitat, food, and instructions. Please let the office or your teacher know if you can help look after a critter. If you aren’t able to do so at Thanksgiving, there will be another opportunity at Winter Break!
Newspaper for Pet Cages
The pets in the Elementary/Middle School building are in need of newspaper for cage lining. If you take the paper and could save and bring some in, we would really appreciate it!
‘Tis the Season to Shop Scrip
If you are purchasing gift cards to give to friends and family this year, please consider doing so through our Scrip program.
Your gift cards will be worth their face value and Scrip will send the TMS Annual Fund a percentage of your purchase. Win-win!
We’ve attached a link to a list of companies from which you can choose. You will also be able to see how much of a percentage will come back to the school!
We have several parents who purchase gift cards for their employees this way!
Please have your orders in by Thursday, December 6th so that we can get your cards to you in time for break. You can write a check to TMS, or pay online using the GiveNow Scrip option on our website. Email Peg to let her know which cards you would like, or with any questions, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Dream Creations – TMS Ornaments
Dream Creations still has ornaments of the school’s logo available!
These metal ornaments can be used at holiday time, as a window hanging, or anywhere else you might like to hang one. They are painted “Montessori blue” using a powder coating process which creates a long-lasting covering.
If you would like to purchase one for $12, please send in a check or cash to either office, or you can use the Buy Now button here.
Other Montessori News & Updates
Jesse Corley, our Floating Assistant in the Toddler/Preschool building, will be going on maternity leave on November 30th! Beth Reed (mom to Maddie and Emma) will move into the position.
Beth has been substitute teaching at Montessori since January. She earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education in 2010, and has five years experience working in special education classrooms. We are very excited for Jesse and her husband and to have Beth working with our toddlers and preschoolers!
Maren Schmidt Webinar
The importance of observation is something that we as staff and teachers have been discussing often this year. Close observation of the students allows us to understand where they are in their development, which lessons are particularly interesting to them, and where they might need additional support.
It’s nicely timed that Maren Schmidt is currently offering a free, 30 minute webinar – How to Become a Better Observer…The Montessori Way – and we thought that we would share it with you!
